The elections of the head of Lisbon Camara (municipal administration) are to be held in July. Antonio Costa, governing Socialist PS party candidate, is widely tipped as the favourite of the elections. His most plausible rival is Fernando Negrao of Social Democrat (PSD) party.

On grand Lisbon auto show April 30-May 9 the Mercedes-Benz company introduced the next generation A-class concept car. Pedro Braz, president of Mercedes-Benz Portugal, announced Automotive News Europe the presentation of the five-door version of the Mercedes entry-level model, which was one of the highlights of the show.

The city boasts many unique festivals and international events. Festival of the Trays, held on Easter every four years, is a really unforgettable event, with sumptuous street decorations, heaps of flowers thrown over the procession of trays carried by hundreds of young girls, carrying trays on their heads.

International Independent Film Festival in April is a prestigious independent cinema event, aimed to discover new films and new directors throughout the world. It is usually held in April. International Bridge Tournament on Estoril Coast gathers hundreds of top ranking Portuguese and international players, competing for Grand International Bridge Prize.

Cascais Sailing Week in June, held in Cascais Bay under the patronage of the Estoril Coast Tourist Board is a world level sporting event, attracting competitors from many countries. Guincho Wave Contest in Estoril is a part of the PWA Circuit - Professional Windsurfers Association. Hosting many world class sport professionals, it is one of the most followed by media events of the kind.

Bullfighting, a traditional Iberian peninsula sport, is running May to September on the 10,000-seater Campo Pequeno, one of the largest bullrings of the world, an example of ancient Moorish architecture. Corridas are held every Thursday.

Sintra Music Festival, held June-August, boasts the presence of top world names in classical music and dance. The magnificent shows are set in sceneries of  the Pena Palace, the Town Palace, the Queluz Palace and the Regaleira Estate.
