Lisbon  is well served by all transportation means. The best option for long- distance traveling is air transport. Aeroporto da Portela is the city's biggest aerial hub. It is served by major European airlines. The airport is linked to the city by an aerobus, coach service, which runs every 20 minutes from 07.00 to 21.00 and  bus lines 5, 8, 22, 44, 45, 83.

The city is well connected with many destinations by bus routes. The Eurolines/National Express run regular services from the United Kingdom (Victoria Coach Station in London) to Lisbon, Oporto, Coimbra, Fátima, Faro, Lagos. The other major hub of the company is Paris.

The city's main terminal is the Gare do Oriente near Parque das Nações, which also includes a railway and a metro station. Four daily departures run from there to Algarve, the country's best beach, and Oporto. The city suburbs have more frequent service. Most international and domestic buses arrive and depart from Arco do Cego bus terminal. Terminals and Praca de Espanha and Campo Pequeno serve the country's northwest coast, from Campo das Cebolas the buses operate to Minho and Algarve.

The city can be easily reached by car, as it is the starting point of the country's major highways. Main roads proceed west to Estoril, south to Setubal, and north to Oporto. The alternative south road to Setubal is linked to the main highways to Madrid.

Santa Apolonia station is the major railway point of the city, trains from France and Spain arrive there. Some long-distance and suburban trains stop at the Oriente station at the Parque das Nações. Both railway terminals are connected with metro system. Local trains to Sintra and Estremadura region arrive and depart from the Rossio station between Praça dos Restauradores and the Rossío itself. Cais de Sodre serves destinations along the coast, Estoril and Cascais. Trains from Algarve and south of the country arrive to Barreiro station.
