Lisbon lies in both Atlantic and Mediterranean zones, thereby enjoying probably the mildest climate than any other European capital. The climate is strongly i8nfluenced by the Gulf Stream. On average there are 100 days with rain and 3300 sunny hours per year. The city itself in summer experiences fresh breezes, but the mountainous nearby regions of Serra de Sintra display a large scale of climatic phenomena, resulting in cooler and damper weather.

Winter is typically rainy, windy and cool with some sunny days. The temperatures can range from 2°C and 18°C, with the average 10°C. Temperatures below zero are improbable, snowfall is very rare. There were brief snowfall in January, 2006 and 2007 due to cold waves from Arctic, which affected Europe, but before it no snowfall was registered for 40 years. However, there can be some sleety days.

Spring is warm, with average temperatures from 10°C to 27°C, occasional rainfalls, from relatively heavy in March, amounting to 109 mm, to moderate in April and May, approximately 45 mm. It is the best time to visit the cit, when its beautiful gardens are lush and green, the air is fresh and fragrant.

Summer is warm, even hot, with average temperature about 27°C, though the heat does not become stifling thanks to soothing sea breezes. June and July are very pleasant, best for maritime recreational activities, water sports, suntanning. August is the hottest and the driest month with almost no rainfall and many sunny days.

September has the same temperatures as the summer; the only sign of autumn is increased precipitation. In October the temperature slightly lowers, in November falls to 11-17°C, with heavy showers.
